Wired Synchronized Clocks

Choose a clock that connects directly to your dedicated timing circuit. HC Electronics wired synchronized clocks receive time information through a physical communication connection, providing a display option for installations with dedicated clock wiring.

For a new purchase or replacement, specify the required timing input and electrical supply alongside the display. The aim is a clock that fits both the connection behind the wall and the viewing requirements in front of it.

Select the Correct Timing Input

A wired clock must understand the signal delivered to its input. Identify the controller output or master-clock connection the receiving unit will use, including any available protocol documentation.

01 / RS485 INTERFACE

Where an RS485 interface is specified, the communication format matters as much as the electrical connection. RS485 defines electrical signaling, not a universal clock protocol. An RS485 label therefore does not establish that a clock can interpret the time messages from every RS485-equipped controller.

02 / RS485 ENQUIRY

For an RS485 clock enquiry, include the required message format and communication settings where known. Ask HC Electronics to assess the proposed clock against that specific input, rather than selecting a unit solely by its connector or interface name.

Define the Clock-Side Connection

The connection drawing should make each terminal’s purpose clear. Before approving a wired clock, establish where the timing conductors connect, how operating power enters the unit and which connection accessories are supplied.

Connection DetailInformation to Request
Signal inputSupported timing format, electrical interface and applicable communication settings.
Terminal assignmentIdentification of signal, reference, power and protective connections, where applicable.
Supply requirementsRated input, permitted voltage range, AC or DC requirements and relevant polarity information.
Electrical demandClock power consumption and, where relevant, the receiving interface’s signal-line loading.
Cable acceptanceRequired conductor arrangement, supported wire sizes and any shielding requirements.
Connection hardwareTerminal or connector type, mating parts included and access needed to make the connection.

Treat these as details of the exact clock being offered. A terminal arrangement shown for another enclosure or hardware version should not be used as its connection specification.

For a replacement, provide the existing terminal schedule or original equipment drawing whenever available. Photographs can help identify the connection, but should accompany—not replace—the electrical information.

Digital Displays for Fixed Wiring Positions

HC Electronics provides digital clock configurations with different display dimensions and mounting arrangements. Select the wired version with the display and enclosure required for the intended position.

01

Cable Entry

Where cabling already emerges from a wall or conduit, include the cable outlet’s position relative to the proposed clock. Request a dimensional drawing showing the cable entry, enclosure depth and fixing points.

02

Existing Opening

A clock intended to cover an existing opening should be evaluated against that opening, not just the dimensions of the old display. Specify any requirement to conceal the cable entry or retain an existing mounting surface.

03

Visible Display

For the visible display, state the required digit height and information to be shown. Ask for these requirements to be confirmed together with the wired input, rather than choosing the display and connection electronics as unrelated items.

Retain Existing Wiring Where Suitable

Reusing an established cable route can be an important part of a clock replacement purchase. Submit the available cable identification, conductor details and existing supply information for assessment against the proposed unit.

01

Distinguish between retaining the physical cable and retaining the complete electrical arrangement. Both should be reviewed before describing a replacement as ready to connect.

02

For RS485 installations, adding or changing a receiver can affect the electrical load on the signal line. The proposed clock’s receiving characteristics therefore matter when replacing or adding units; a universal permitted clock count should not be assumed.

03

Ask your installer to verify the existing wiring condition and supply before connection. Any required cable changes, connection accessories or power-supply changes should be identified separately from the clock itself.

Order Against a Defined Wired Configuration

A useful wired-clock quotation identifies more than the display name. Request a clear association between the offered clock model, its timing input, supply requirements and connection drawing.

01 / BY CIRCUIT

For a purchase involving several existing circuits, identify which clock quantities belong to each connection type. This allows the proposed equipment to be reviewed by circuit rather than treating every installed clock as an identical replacement.

02 / INCLUDED ITEMS

Before confirming the order, establish which terminal components, mounting parts and power accessories are included. Also request the operating and connection information applicable to the supplied hardware version.

Wired Clock Purchasing Questions

Does an existing two-wire connection identify the replacement clock I need?

No. The number of conductors does not identify the complete electrical and communication requirements. Provide the function of those conductors, the source equipment details and any existing wiring documentation. A replacement should be selected against that information, not simply described as “two-wire compatible.”

Is line termination included in an RS485 clock?

Ask whether the offered clock has fixed termination, switchable termination or requires an external component. Termination is related to the signal line’s electrical arrangement; it should not be assumed that every receiving clock needs the same termination fitted. Follow the documentation for the selected equipment.

Can the required communication settings be specified when ordering?

Include any mandatory settings in the purchase enquiry and ask which parameters can be supplied preconfigured for the offered model. Record the agreed settings with the order documentation so the receiving equipment can be checked against the intended controller connection.

Request a Wired Synchronized Clock Quotation

Send HC Electronics the required clock quantity, display requirements and details of the wired timing connection. For existing equipment, include the controller identification, clock connection drawing and supply information available to your team.

Request a proposal that identifies the wired clock version, its connection requirements and the items included in the price.
