NTP Clocks

HC Electronics NTP clock with digital time display

Bring your network time reference to a dedicated digital display. HC Electronics NTP clocks receive time from a compatible NTP or SNTP service, providing automatically synchronized time at the clock location.[HC Electronics]

Choose an NTP clock configuration that matches your network requirements, display preferences and available power. For purchasing approval, request the specifications for the proposed model rather than relying on the appearance of the clock alone.

Request NTP Clock Information

NTP Clocks for Your Network Time Service

When your organization already maintains an approved time service, clock selection starts with compatibility. A suitable NTP clock can receive timing information through the IP network without requiring a separate time reference at every display. NTP supports communication over private networks as well as the public internet.[RFC 5905]

Tell us which time service the clock must use and how network devices are approved at your site. We can review the proposed clock configuration against those requirements before confirming the equipment for your order.

The review should cover the clock’s supported NTP or SNTP implementation, network interface, addressing options and access to the designated time service. Any mandatory authentication or network-access requirements should be identified at this stage.

Choose Your Digital NTP Clock Configuration

Display Format

Select the numerical display required at each clock position. HC Electronics’ digital clock range includes 12- and 24-hour time formats, with display dimensions and mounting configurations specified for the selected product. Confirm the combination available with the NTP hardware being quoted.[Digital Clocks]

For an NTP clock purchase, specify whether the display must show hours and minutes only or include seconds. Include any date-display requirement in the product enquiry so it can be checked against the proposed configuration.

Power Arrangement

Identify whether the clock location has a separate electrical supply or requires an Ethernet-powered model. The electrical input, connector and any supplied power adapter should be stated in the quotation.

NTP capability does not establish PoE capability. Power over Ethernet requires compatible powered-device hardware and a suitable power source; it should be confirmed separately from network time synchronization.[Cisco]

Mounting and Cable Access

For an NTP wall clock, check the mounting arrangement together with the position of the network and power connections. Allow space for the connectors and access needed to disconnect or replace the unit.

For a suspended display, include the proposed mounting arrangement in your enquiry. Request the installation drawing for the selected clock so the fixing points and cable entry can be reviewed before purchase.

Review the Clock-Side Network Requirements

Use the following details when evaluating the proposed NTP clock. These are configuration points to confirm for the selected model, not features assumed to be included in every version.

ItemDetails to Confirm
Time-service compatibilitySupported NTP or SNTP implementation and compatibility with the designated service.
Network interfaceConnection type and interface specifications for the quoted clock.
IP addressingWhether the required DHCP or static-address configuration is supported.
Time-source settingsHow the source is specified, including address or hostname support where required.
Configuration accessThe available method for changing the clock’s network and time settings.
Network securityCompatibility with any mandatory authentication or device-access requirements.
Synchronization indicationWhether and how the clock reports successful synchronization or an unavailable reference.
Restart behaviorWhich settings are retained and how synchronization resumes after power returns.

Security requirements deserve particular attention. For example, Network Time Security is a separate mechanism for protecting NTP communication; ordinary NTP support should not be treated as confirmation that a clock supports it. Include any such requirement in the enquiry for a model-specific assessment.[RFC 8915]

Confirm the Hardware Before Ordering

Ask for the model identifier and configuration details to be included with the quotation. The display, network electronics, power arrangement and mounting accessories should be identifiable as one agreed product configuration.

For replacement purchases, provide the existing clock’s model information and connection details. Matching the enclosure dimensions alone is not enough to establish that the replacement meets the same electrical and network requirements.

For larger quantities, a pre-purchase evaluation can help establish whether the proposed clock meets your acceptance criteria. Discuss evaluation-unit availability and agree the checks required, such as synchronization with the nominated service, display operation and recovery after a controlled restart.

Any required timing tolerance should be stated against a defined reference and operating conditions. Do not infer the clock’s displayed-time performance solely from the accuracy rating of the upstream server; the receiving device and network path also affect synchronization.[RFC 5905]

NTP Clock Purchasing Questions

Does a seconds display mean the clock synchronizes every second?

No. Updating the visible seconds and obtaining a new time measurement are separate operations. A clock can advance its display between network updates. Ask for the synchronization interval and displayed-time performance of the proposed model when these are purchase requirements.[RFC 5905]

Does NTP support include remote clock management?

Not by itself. Receiving network time does not establish which controls a particular clock provides for configuration, monitoring or firmware maintenance. Request details of the available management method when evaluating the hardware.

Can one product specification cover an order with different clock sizes?

Request a configuration breakdown for each variant. Where an order includes different displays, power arrangements or network hardware versions, identify the quantity and specifications of each combination separately. This gives purchasing and installation teams a clear record of the equipment being supplied.

Request an NTP Clock Quotation

Send HC Electronics your required quantity, preferred display, available power and NTP service requirements. Include any mandatory network features or existing product specification.

We will review the enquiry and discuss a suitable NTP clock configuration, relevant product information and quotation.
